Fitting Rear Headrests

Once you have acquired a pair of rear headrests, you'll need a few parts from the dealer to fit them. Order the following:

52 10 1 928 809 Clips to hold the headrests in the posts (10 in a pack) £1.20+VAT

52 20 8 135 923 Covers for the parcel shelf (4 in a pack - black) £2.64 + VAT

I'm going to use my coupe with folding rear seats in ths case, fixed seats or saloon may differ slightly.

Start by folding the rear seats down and remove the side bolsters. You will then need to remove the trim panel at the edge of the parcel shelf. It is held on with four self holding spuds. The best way to get them out is with two flat blade screwdrivers. Use one either side of the head of the spud and lever out.

Next, remove the side panel cards under each of the windows, they pull away under the window and lift out. Remove the C-Pillar trims on either side of the rear window, they are easy enough to get off, start at the top corner beside the side window and pull carefully off.

Now you can lift out the shelf!

You can see the two posts for the passenger side, fit the clips and test the headrest.

Now, take the shelf out of the car to a clean work area. Turn it over and you will see 4 impressions on the leading edge which you need to cut out.

The shelf is about 2mm thick and is very difficult to cut with a knife.I've outlined the shape on the right. Use a black pen to make it's shape very clear. I used an 18mm wood drill bit to drill the main hole, a 5mm metal bit to drill the top outdent and trimmed with a *very* sharp knife so as not to rip the cloth covering.

You will end up with this

When you have fitted all four, take the opportunity to give the shelf a good clean!

Now all you have to do if put everything back again... as Mr Haynes would say: 'refitting is the reverse of removal'!!!

You will end up with this

Good luck!

Points to note:

1. Opening the side windows to their vent position makes life a lot easier

2. When refitting the side cards, you will need to ease the door and window seals off their seats in order to get the card edge to sit under the seal. Tap the seals back gently with a clean, flat piece of wood and a hammer
